URUGUAY RECLAMA LA LEGALIZACIÓN DEL CANNABIS PARA TRATAR LA FIBROMIALGIA




La fibromalgia, afecta una nueva enfermedad difícil de detectar y que requiere un tratamiento multidisciplinario;  afecta aproximadamente entre el 2 y el 5 por ciento de la población general de diferentes países. Su tratamiento del dolor requiere antiinflamatorios no esteroideos y se va escalando si surten efecto o no hasta terminar en opiáceos e incluso en morfina, cada vez existen más pacientes que padecen la fibromialgia.

 Si bien hay enfermos de todas las edades, es una patología que suele aparecer entre los 30 y los 40 años de edad.  Afecta a un hombre de cada nueve mujeres, por eso se considera la enfermedad de género. Sin embargo, y como en ya muchas afecciones, el cannabis puede también dar una mano a millas de pacientes. Fue reconocido por la Organización Mundial de la Salud en 1992 y es el dolor lo que más la característica.

Todavía hay médicos y profesionales de la salud que no creen en su existencia, no existe un examen clínico de sangre, placa o tomografía que indican su presencia y quienes padecen lucen sanos.

“El dolor en la fibromialgia es diferente a lo que puede ser el dolor reumático de otras patologías porque no hay ni inflamación ni degeneración, como sí aparece en la artritis o en la artrosis. El dolor no es periférico, sino que tiene un origen central. Por eso se engloba dentro de los síndromes de sensibilización central, que incluye el síndrome de fatiga crónica, el de sensibilidad química múltiple, el de electrosensibilidad, colon irritable, etc. Son síndromes que se asocian al sistema nervioso central, o sea, cómo se perciben las sensaciones a nivel del cerebro ”, detalló Velázquez, médico especializado en acupuntura y medicina china tradicional, y formado también en la Sociedad Uruguaya de Endocannabinología (SUEN) .  

Trabaja con pacientes con fibromialgia desde 2018 especialmente en lo que respeta a los tratamientos con cannabis medicinal. El CBD ayuda a los pacientes a regular el dolor, la inflamación, el sueño y el ánimo, que son varias de las cosas que se alteran en esta enfermedad.

Además, en la Asociación de Pacientes con Fibromialgia de Uruguay hay más de 100 personas tratándose con cannabis medicinal; con más de 90 por ciento de buenos resultados. 

Los pacientes uruguayos demandan que se reglamente la ley que avala su existencia y que exhorta a informar e investigar.  Y, junto con muchos otros pacientes de otras patologías, reclaman que se reglamente la Ley de Cannabis Medicinal aprobada el año pasado y que, entre otras cosas, controla la calidad de hierba que se administra. El reclamo se hace visible durante mayo, considerado el mes de la Fibromialgia. La presidenta de la Asociación de Pacientes con Fibromialgia y otras Enfermedades de Sensibilización Central del Uruguay, Claudia Souto, subrayó que lo que más preocupa a los pacientes en un principio es qué comprenda qué tipo de patología es la fibromialgia.

Es que también aparecen otros síntomas que afectan la vida de la persona, como la fatiga, el cansancio permanente, las alteraciones al nivel cognitivo (memoria, capacidad de atención, concentración), la alteración del sueño y los síntomas físicos como trastornos digestivos o cardíacos.  Se registran trastornos de ansiedad y depresión en un 30 por ciento de los casos.

“Por eso muchas veces se prejuzga o se asocia todo a un trastorno psiquiátrico. También se confunde a la fibromialgia con otras patologías ”, acotó la especialista.

Finalmente, detalla que “la fibromialgia genera una discapacidad que, con ciertos ajustes razonables en el trabajo, la persona puede trabajar. Es más, necesita seguir haciéndolo porque muchas están en plena vida útil ”.

That is why it is included within the central sensitization syndromes, which includes chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome, electrosensitivity syndrome, irritable colon, etc. They are syndromes that are associated with the central nervous system, that is, how sensations are perceived at the brain level, ”explained Velázquez, a doctor specializing in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, and also trained in the Uruguayan Society of Endocannabinology (SUEN).

He has been working with fibromyalgia patients since 2018, especially with regard to medicinal cannabis treatments. CBD helps patients regulate pain, inflammation, sleep and mood, which are several of the things that are altered in this disease.

In addition, in the Association of Patients with Fibromyalgia of Uruguay there are more than 100 people treating with medical cannabis; with more than 90 percent good results.

Uruguayan patients demand that the law that endorses their existence and that calls for information and investigation be regulated. And, along with many other patients of other pathologies, they demand that the Medicinal Cannabis Law passed last year be regulated and that, among other things, it controls the quality of the herb administered. The claim becomes visible during May, considered the month of Fibromyalgia. The president of the Association of Patients with Fibromyalgia and other Central Sensitizing Diseases of Uruguay, Claudia Souto, stressed that what most worries patients at first is what they understand what type of pathology is fibromyalgia.

It is that other symptoms that affect the person´s life also appear, such as fatigue, permanent tiredness, alterations at the cognitive level (memory, attention span, concentration), sleep disturbance and physical symptoms such as digestive or cardiac disorders . Anxiety and depression disorders are recorded in 30 percent of cases.

“That is why many times everything is prejudged or associated with a psychiatric disorder. Fibromyalgia is also confused with other pathologies, "said the specialist.

Finally, he details that “fibromyalgia generates a disability that, with certain reasonable adjustments at work, the person can work. What´s more, it needs to continue doing it because many are in full useful life”
