En Canadá, científicos de la Universidad de Lethbridge en Alberta (oeste), estudian el potencial de extractos de cannabis para generar resistencia al virus nuevo y letal.
Los resultados son parte de una investigación sobre el uso del cannabis para tratar el cáncer y la enfermedad de Crohn.
También en Israel, en el Hospital Ichilov de Tel Aviv, se examina el impacto del cannabis en pacientes con coronavirus (covid-19)
Ese estudio investiga si el cannabidiol o CBD, sustancia activa del cannabis, retrasaría el proceso inflamatorio que acompaña al deterioro de los pacientes con coronavirus grave y aliviar los síntomas de la enfermedad.
La investigación se desarrollará en varios departamentos del hospital Ichilov Medical Center y se reclutará a decenas de pacientes de grado medio.

En diálogo con Caracol Radio, el doctor Carlos Maldonado, vicepresidente de Desarrollo clínico de la firma Avicanna Latinoamérica, contó que “la investigación se hace con la Universidad de Toronto y han comenzado a evaluar los efectos para determinar si controla o no parte de las complicaciones del coronavirus. Apenas se hace de forma experimental y no en humanos, esto tomará tiempo”.
Los científicos han determinado que los cannabinoides tienen propiedades antioxidantes y desinflamatorias.

En cuanto a las proyecciones para determinar la efectividad, el doctor Carlos Maldonado, hizo una invitación a ser responsables y realistas.
“Cuando hablamos de cannabis hay muchas expectativas y hay que ser realistas, de tres a cuatro años podría tardar”.
Finalmente aseguró que hay evidencia y estudios clínicos que demuestran el uso para la epilepsia, la ansiedad, trastornos de sueño y otras patologías más “Colombia como país piloto para el desarrollo del cultivo y la obtención del fármaco tiene un avance a nivel socio económico.
“Hay que comenzar a gestar una actividad sincronizada entre el Ministerio de salud y el Invima. Hay productos de calidad y se debe trabajar en equipo, esa es una oportunidad que no debemos dejar pasar”, finalizó.
