ENFRENTAMIENTOS CON COGOLLEROS EN EEUU

-eeu.jpg" alt="" width="560" align="none">

When Susan Corbett planted hemp on her plot, she never imagined that she should put in place a security system against "bud" thieves.
For the buds who want to enter his field, Corbett put up signs that read in thick letters: "This is not marijuana."

"I don´t know what they do with that," he says of the plants. "There is no THC in them," he adds.

Hemp is in demand for its seeds, fiber and oil, and its CBD relaxer.
The cultivation of hemp is one of the oldest in the world and the one most persecuted by law enforcement officers and by the famous "buds"

The United States banned it in the 20th century, authorized it for research purposes in 2014, and legalized it nationwide four years later.

In 46 states, laws were passed to regulate its production.

The number of permits in 34 states grew 455 percent last year compared to 2018, according to Vote Hemp, an organization that advocates for the crop.

CBD has become so popular that financial services firm Canaccord Genuity estimates its sales will have grown 45 percent to $ 18 billion by 2024.

Growers say the hemp harvest is very demanding.

Hemp must be harvested by hand and with infinite care to avoid pests and then dried. With too many plantations on the market and a shortage of processors, many growers are warning that buyers are giving up the business already agreed.

"When we go to the CBD market, the question is ´we´ll pay you when they pay us,´ which gets us in trouble with creditors," said David Turner of DC Hemp, which has farms in Virginia.
Turner abandoned planting in the 2020 season and Vote Hemp estimates that the actual 2019 crop was much smaller than allowed.
"Everybody plants and says ´This is wonderful,´" Corbett said. "I say, ´Wait.´

At Corbett´s farm, they cut off the tops of the cocoons.

Were they doing it to smoke marijuana believing it to be marijuana or to sell it to less informed consumers?

Turner isn´t sure, but said police have arrested several suspects in the robberies.

“Certainly there was some oversaturation in the market in these years and that is why prices were oversaturated.

"It is still profitable if you find a buyer," he said, adding that the market will improve when the capacity to process hemp fiber increases and the government passes regulations for the use of CBD as a supplement.
