Se veía venir y ya lo han anunciado, a partir de la temporada 2021 en la NBA no se harán controles de consumo de cannabis. Todo se inició cuando se suspendieron los test por motivo del COVID y las circunstancias inusuales de la pandemia. Aunque la sustancia sigue incluida en el listado de drogas de abuso el retirar los controles es una manera indirecta de permitir su consumo.
A este respecto el director de la NBA se reserva la potestad de realizar pruebas a los jugadores que lleguen en malas condiciones al campo o que esté afectando negativamente a su rendimiento.
Tanto jugadores como entrenadores ven el cannabis no como una droga lúdica si no como una medicina que ayuda a la recuperación, física y mental, después de partidos y temporadas tan demandantes como son las de esta liga.
Debido a la prohibición muchos jugadores solo han comentado los beneficios que obtenían al consumir cannabis una vez que dejaban de jugar, por el riesgo de penalización por parte de la organización de la liga.
Otro paso en la normalización del consumo y en este caso muy visible debido a la gran visibilidad que tiene la liga estadounidense de basket.
