Cannabis lowers blood pressure according to this study

The issue of blood pressure drops is something that all cannabis users know, the most and least we have had some "yellow". The point is that this effect can be very beneficial for people with hypertension and who must take medications with many side effects.

This study published in the medical journal European Journal of Internal Medicine, conducted by Dr. Ran Abuhasira at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev University, monitored 26 patients aged over 59 years and just over half were women. All of them suffer from hypertension and were being treated with cannabis medicinally.

Research showed that 45.5% of patients significantly lowered their blood pressure levels. Furthermore, the analyzes did not show differences in the rest of the metabolic parameters, anthropometric measurements or in the ECG examinations.

“Medical cannabis use is increasing rapidly in recent years, with the elderly being the fastest growing group,” commented the researchers, and “However, the evidence for the cardiovascular safety of cannabis use is scant. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cannabis on blood pressure, heart rate and metabolic parameters in older adults with hypertension ”.

Observations showed that blood pressure levels reached their lowest point about three hours after the use of cannabis, whether smoked or vaped. The drops were also seen at night which could indicate a connection between consumption and pain relief.

"Among older adults with hypertension, treatment with cannabis for three months was associated with a reduction in 24-hour systolic and diastolic blood pressure values with a nadir at three hours after cannabis administration," the researchers commented. .

It is important research because it could open the door to new research and for cannabis to become part of the treatment of hypertension in older adults. Very important issue because times are coming when the majority of the population will be over 65 years old.
