Como ya comentamos en otra noticia, Malta había tomado el camino correcto de la legalización a través del cannabis terapéutico. Ahora además están planteando permitir el consumo responsable.
Hemos comprobado que es la forma correcta de hacer las cosas. Es imposible avanzar hacia una despenalización del cannabis directamente planteando el consumo lúdico, no, la ciudadanía debe comprobar todas las posibilidades médicas, normalizar el consumo y visibilizar a los consumidores sin demonizarlos.
Parece que lo que ha provocado que el debate se priorice por delante de otras cuestiones fue el arresto de una pareja joven en un hotel sobre el día de San Valentín. Fueron arrestados con cargos por tráfico de drogas, algo que le ha parecido inadmisible a la mayoría de la población e incluso a políticos de todas las sensibilidades.
Tanta ha sido la ola de indignación que el primer ministro Robert Abela ha comunicado que se va a presentar un proyecto de ley para legalizar el "uso responsable" del cannabis. La venta de su variante medicinal ayudó a un gran desarrollo empresarial para uso tanto de la población isleña como para exportar a otros países. Malta , además de Grecia y Portugal, se está posicionando rápidamente para convertirse en uno de los proveedores mas importante de cannabis medicinal a nivel europeo, para Alemania por ejemplo que está aumentando las importaciones día a día.
Otros países europeos como Luxemburgo o Suiza, que ya legalizaron el uso terapéutico de la planta, están empezando a platearse hacer un experimento social respecto al consumo recreativo y pueden servir de ejemplo a seguir a los legisladores Malteses.
Además Malta sabe que, en cuanto los movimientos vacacionales vuelvan a ser lo que eran, podrían posicionarse como primer destino turístico cannábico del mediterráneo. No es ninguna tontería, muchos visitantes que, actualmente arriban en costas españolas e italianas, dejarían de hacerlo si pueden consumir sin miedo a las repercusiones legales que si padecen en nuestros países.

As we discussed in other news, Malta had taken the right path of legalization through therapeutic cannabis. Now they are also considering allowing responsible consumption.
We have proven that it is the right way to do things. It is impossible to advance towards a decriminalization of cannabis directly by proposing recreational consumption, no, citizens must verify all medical possibilities, normalize consumption and make consumers visible without demonizing them.
It seems that what has caused the debate to be prioritized over other issues was the arrest of a young couple in a hotel on Valentine"s Day. They were arrested on drug trafficking charges, something that has seemed unacceptable to most of the population and even to politicians of all sensitivities.
Such has been the wave of indignation that Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that a bill will be presented to legalize the "responsible use" of cannabis. The sale of its medicinal variant helped a great business development for use both by the island population and for export to other countries. Malta, in addition to Greece and Portugal, is rapidly positioning itself to become one of the most important suppliers of medicinal cannabis at the European level, for Germany for example, which is increasing imports day by day.
Other European countries such as Luxembourg or Switzerland, which have already legalized the therapeutic use of the plant, are beginning to plan to make a social experiment with regard to recreational consumption and can serve as an example for Maltese legislators to follow.
In addition, Malta knows that, as soon as the holiday movements return to what they were, they could position themselves as the first cannabis tourist destination in the Mediterranean. It is not nonsense, many visitors who currently arrive on Spanish and Italian coasts, would stop doing so if they can consume without fear of the legal repercussions that they suffer in our countries.
