PORTUGAL FEELS THE PREASSURE TO LEGALIZE RECREATIONAL CANNABIS

Socialist Platform for Cannabis Legalization has been pushing the Portuguese Socialist Party to legalize Cannabis for recreational use to enhance the developement of the national industry. Some bills about Medicinal Cannabis were submited this year, besides from the legalization that came afterwards, not long ago.

Socialist Activists appeal to the fail of prohibitionist policies and the encouragement of drug traffic and corruption to push that legalization. They have to integrate into the progressive global movement for the liberalization of drug policies. Portugal was a pioneer in decriminalizating the use of all drugs in 2002, the next step should be to initiate regulatory policies.

Regarding the medicinal aspect, industry regulation is requested to defend the interests of national producers, even at the time of exporting. Although at this moment, legal restrictions favor international investments which could be a risk for national agricultural initiatives of medium and small sizes.
